We ran this ourselves — 21 South London and Surrey areas, 9 trades, borough by borough, using Google Keyword Planner and cross-referenced against Semrush. Not assumed, not templated.

Loft conversion came out as the fourth-strongest trade search across the boroughs we tested — behind plumber and electrician, and behind roofer, but consistently ahead of general builder searches. That ranking is why this page exists.

Plumber searches were the highest or joint-highest trade search in all 21 areas we researched, and electrician searches in 16 of them. In Bromley and Croydon plumber searches sit a full band above builder searches. Loft conversion volume is smaller — but the value of a single job is many multiples higher, which is what makes it worth competing for.

Kitchen fitter searches were under 10 a month, or not recorded, in 16 of the 21 areas we researched, but reached 100 to 1,000 a month in Bromley and Croydon. Demand for some trades is very local.
The practical takeaway for a loft conversion company is that generic "builder" pages are the wrong battleground. Search behaviour in South London splits along specific job types — dormer, hip-to-gable, mansard, Velux, plus planning permission and cost queries — and those terms are considerably less contested than the head term everyone chases.
