Our own research
Where loft conversion actually sits in South London search
We ran this ourselves — 20 South London boroughs, 9 trades, borough by borough, using Google Keyword Planner and cross-referenced against Semrush. Not assumed, not templated.
4th
Loft conversion came out as the fourth-strongest trade search across the boroughs we tested — behind plumber and electrician, and behind roofer, but consistently ahead of general builder searches. That ranking is why this page exists.
19 of 20
Plumber and electrician were the highest or joint-highest volume searches in 19 of 20 boroughs, and in Bromley and Croydon plumber runs at roughly ten times general builder volume. Loft conversion volume is smaller — but the value of a single job is many multiples higher, which is what makes it worth competing for.
Surprise
"Kitchen fitter" as a borough-specific search showed almost no measurable volume anywhere we tested. For a loft firm that also fits kitchens, that is a useful warning about where not to spend the content budget.
The practical takeaway for a loft conversion company is that generic "builder" pages are the wrong battleground. Search behaviour in South London splits along specific job types — dormer, hip-to-gable, mansard, Velux, plus planning permission and cost queries — and those terms are considerably less contested than the head term everyone chases. We build your site around the way homeowners in your boroughs actually type, not the way the industry describes itself.
