Trade work in Kingston: roofs, gardens and a borough of homeowners
In Kingston, plumbers and electricians are not the only trades people search for in large numbers. Roofer and landscaper searches reach the same level. Here is what plumbers, electricians, roofers, landscapers, builders and every other trade will find there.
Four trades level at the top
Plumber, electrician and roofer searches in Kingston each run in the hundreds a month (Google's range: 100 to 1,000). So do searches for landscaper and landscaping. Of the five areas we checked for landscaping terms, Kingston is the only one where they reach that level. Builder, loft conversion, bathroom and heating engineer searches sit lower, at 10 to 100 a month. Not sure which of these searches your business already shows up for? Our free audit will tell you.
Six in ten homes are owner occupied
Of Kingston's 65,628 households, 60.9% are owner occupied, a higher share than in Merton, Wandsworth or Lewisham. Another 27.3% rent privately (about 17,900 homes) and 11.0% rent socially. Private landlords must arrange a Gas Safe check every year and an electrical inspection at least every five years, and social landlords now need the five-yearly electrical checks too. If certificate work is part of your business, we can build the pages that landlords and letting agents find when they search.
Gas first, with an electric minority
78.1% of homes heat with mains gas only, so boiler servicing, repairs and replacements lead the plumbing work. 10.7% heat with electricity only, about one home in ten.
Cambridge Road Estate and the town centre
Cambridge Road Estate in Norbiton is the borough's largest regeneration project: 2,170 new homes over 10 to 15 years, with completion estimated for 2037. Another 950 homes are in the pipeline at Hook Rise South in KT6. Kingston town centre is a London Plan Opportunity Area with capacity for 9,000 homes by 2041, though only 638 were completed between 2019/20 and 2023/24. Across the whole borough, the London Plan target is 9,640 homes in ten years, 2,250 of them on small sites. New homes mean new customers, and we can make sure your Google profile and local pages are ready for them.
Planning: check before you quote
Kingston has 26 conservation areas, from Kingston Old Town and Surbiton Town Centre to Coombe Hill, Coombe Wood and Old Malden. The government's planning data register lists three Article 4 directions in Kingston, covering the Seething Wells filter beds, North and South Lodge, and changes from commercial to residential use. None of them targets ordinary houses, but conservation area rules still apply, so check before altering roofs, windows or frontages. Experience in these streets is a selling point: we can turn your past conservation-area jobs into project pages that show homeowners you know the rules.
Ground conditions
Historic England's archaeological review of Kingston records London Clay particularly across the southern part of the borough, with river alluvium along the Thames and its tributaries and terrace gravel in places such as Berrylands. Clay shrinks and cracks as it dries and swells when it gets wet, and that movement can lead to subsidence. Ground like this is local knowledge homeowners value, and we can show your experience of jobs in the area on your website so it's clear you know the local conditions.
Where the work is
KT1 and KT2 (Kingston, Norbiton, Coombe), KT3 (New Malden), KT4 (Worcester Park, shared with Sutton), KT5 and KT6 (Surbiton, Berrylands, Tolworth), KT9 (Chessington, Hook).
Getting found here
In Kingston, roofing and garden work sit in the same search band as plumbing and electrics, so every service you offer needs its own page, its own place on your Google profile and photos of finished jobs from Surbiton, New Malden and Coombe. That takes time most traders don't have. OM Marketing can do all of it for you: we build the pages, manage your Google profile and run local ads, so you can stay on the tools while the enquiries come in. Book a free audit and we'll show you where you stand in Kingston.
